Self Portrait
rAndom International launched ‘Self Portrait’ at Designers of the Future 2010, Design Miami / Basel.
‘Self Portrait‘ invites viewers to become active agents in the making of their own depiction. The work creates a large-scale, impermanent representation of the person standing before it, printing their image with light onto a light-sensitive surface. The portrait begins to fade away almost as soon as it emerges; the work erases every mark it makes. Each captured moment is immediately lost and can only be experienced as process. Self Portrait follows an aesthetic of presence and erasure that Random International has developed over the years in a variety of Temporary Printing Machine installations.

The installation, presented at the Designers of the Future exhibition, generated an incredible response, as can be seen in the Art Observer and the Financial Times.
